Discover Lapaz African Cuisine

If you're looking for a unique dining experience in Manassas, VA, Lapaz African Cuisine stands out as a must-visit destination. Located at 8041 Centreville Rd, this vibrant restaurant offers an authentic taste of African food that's hard to find elsewhere in the area. From the moment you step in, the atmosphere gives you a warm and welcoming feeling, setting the stage for a delightful meal.

The menu at Lapaz African Cuisine is nothing short of impressive, with a diverse selection of dishes that showcase the rich flavors of various African regions. Whether you're a seasoned fan of African cuisine or trying it for the first time, you'll find something to enjoy. For starters, the jollof rice, a West African classic, is a crowd favorite. The dish is beautifully spiced with a medley of ingredients that bring out a comforting, savory flavor. Paired with tender chicken or beef, it offers a delicious introduction to the bold, layered tastes that define African cooking.

One of the highlights of the menu is their goat stew, a dish that's rich in flavor and deeply satisfying. The slow-cooked goat meat is tender, falling off the bone with ease. The stew is packed with aromatic herbs and spices that give it a deep, hearty taste. It’s a perfect representation of how slow cooking can bring out the best in a dish, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully.

Vegetarians and vegans will also find plenty to choose from, with options like the spicy vegetable stir-fry and plantains, which offer both a satisfying meal and a taste of traditional African ingredients. The plantains, in particular, are a fan favorite-crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and lightly seasoned to perfection.

What truly makes Lapaz African Cuisine shine is its authenticity. Unlike other African restaurants that may simplify dishes for broader palates, this spot stays true to its roots. The owners and chefs bring decades of experience, with many recipes handed down through generations. Customer reviews also echo the positive sentiment. Many guests praise the restaurant not only for its flavorful food but for its attention to detail in presentation and service. The relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere, paired with the delectable food, creates a dining experience that's both memorable and satisfying.

  • The food is excellent at Lapaz African Cuisine! As someone familiar with various African cuisines, I was eager to try this restaurant and compare it to others I've visited. The restaurant features a clean interior with modest decor. Our waitress provided knowledgeable guidance about the menu items, helping us navigate the various offerings. The presentation of the food was great, with each dish plated to showcase its quality. I ordered the waakye ("wa-chee"), a complex flavorful dish known by its distinctive burgundy color. I chose the waakye with fish, which was very fresh and prepared perfectly. The dish came complete with traditional accompaniments: pasta, boiled egg, gari, and both regular and shito sauces. We also ordered the jollof rice, a well-known West African staple. This jollof rice had the perfect balance of flavors, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. The large portions provided us with leftovers to enjoy the next day. We were was very happy we went to Lapaz to eat. For diners seeking authentic African cuisine, Lapaz African Cuisine is a must-visit destination. Whether you're new to West African food or already a fan of West African food, you will not be disappointed.

  • My friend and I went here for lunch and it was our first time here, we honestly couldn’t stop talking about how good it was!!! Ralph is super kind and helpful as well by telling us what paired best with which. I got the Okra Stew with Eba and my friend got the Spinach Stew with fufu and a 10/10 from the both of us! We enjoyed how much of a great first experience this was for the both of us and how kind the staff were. The portions are also very decent sized as well for the price and quality of food it’s so worth it. I posted a picture on my social media and recommended it to everyone who asked about it! My friend and I can’t wait to come back and try their other options, thank you Lapaz!!!!

  • This place was authentic and genuine as it gets. Made fresh to order so plz don’t mind the lil wait as others mentioned on some of the reviews. I rather wait for freshly made food than get fast food. People were super friendly as well. Will definitely come back! EXCELLENT.

  • AMAZING food but wait time was longer than expected. this small, family owned restaurant is serving up one of the best west african food i’ve had. highly recommend the fufu with spinach stew + chicken and the suya rice with goat. the jollof rice was a good portion and the fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. the eba with peanut butter soup+beef was not out favorite because it was fermented but the beef was good. i wish they had music playing in the background cuz it was too quiet for the amount of time we waited but otherwise everything was great. definitely coming back!!
